Blacksmithing for the Beginner: Lesson 3

Apply your blacksmithing skills to thicker metal and learn to make a fire poker.  Instructors Payne Anne and Bill of Peninsula Hotworks will teach you to efficiently taper thick stock, fold the metal, forge weld it and create decorative reverse twists.  You will forge your own fire poker to pass down through the generations.

Open to students 10 years (with accompanying adult) and older who have successfully completed the beginning 2 classes or have prior blacksmithing experience. You must wear natural fiber clothing, long pants and closed toe shoes. All other safety equipment will be provided.

A minimum of 5 students need to be registered by August 31 in order to hold the class. Maximum of 8 students.  To register for this class, click “Sign Up Online” below or call 906-884-7663. For information about refunds, click on the Refund Policy link at the bottom of the Folk School page.

Directions: Follow M-107 west from Silver City to Union Bay Campground (turn right), take first gravel road to right – you are there! We are in the old carpenter’s shop, the first building on your right.
