We will begin our morning by watching a brief demo of log pounding and splitting. April will then guide you as you create a continuous weave Black Ash basket, a process that incorporates knife scraping and cutting of splints. The woven Basket will measure approximately 6”x6”x6”.
The basketry process you will learn in this class is a traditional craft of the great lakes having a cultural and historical context. It is a creative process in which the individual weaves a unique vessel of their own, and it is multi-faceted in that there are many layers to the weaving process including traditional teachings and healing, and it is awesome.
No experience is necessary; beginning to advanced students age 16 and older are welcome. Students must have good hand strength and be able to use scissors and a knife for cutting and scraping splints.
Please bring a lunch.
