How You Can Help

Donations

Thanks to generous supporters like you, we have provided thousands of visitors’ exceptional experiences since our founding in 1996. From the Porcupine Mountains Music Festival a regionally significant event to the Artists in Residence and Folk School workshops, individual donors have helped the entire way. By donating to the Friends of the Porkies, you are ensuring a lasting legacy of the Porcupine Mountains that future generations will appreciate and enjoy.

How would you like your favorite rocky shoreline, the falls on the Presque Isle River, the Government Peak trail, or Lake of the Clouds overlook to look ten years from now? How about in 100 years? It is hard to predict how our region may change moving forward, but by taking part in our shared vision of the Porkies you can help protect what is special for you, forever. Join the Friends of the Porkies and make your voice heard.

By supporting the Friends of the Porkies, members contribute to the character, beauty, natural heritage, and recreational opportunities of the Porkies. Members help create opportunities for public recreation, a healthier community, and greater awareness of the value of wilderness conservation. Most importantly, members gain the knowledge that they're leaving a legacy on the landscape.

Your support for the FOP will go a long way towards ensuring special places like Trapp Falls, Nonesuch Mine, Summit Peak, and other places along 26 miles of Lake Superior shoreline are protected for future generations. Please consider donating what you can today. Membership categories are $25 for an individual, $40 for a household, $50 for business and $300 to become a Lifetime member.

Volunteers

Volunteers are the Friends of the Porkies organization! We welcome donations of your time to our enthusiastic corps of volunteers that help create memorable park visitor experiences, provide educational opportunities, and protect resources through hands on stewardship. You can volunteer to help the Friends and the Park in every season and in many ways. We are thankful to our volunteers, we couldn't do it without you!

Volunteers with experience in botany, geology, history, birding, the arts, education, and photography bring valuable services to the Friend’s. In the summer, volunteers operate the Folk School, help an Artist-in Residence settle in to Dan’s Cabin or staff the Music Festival. From the comfort of home, volunteers work on the newsletter and Web site, record keeping and correspondence, conduct membership campaigns, write grant proposals, and help with fundraising events. Volunteers can offer much needed free or reduced-fee professional services. Many volunteers donate materials and supplies to the Friends of the Porkies.
